ASUU To Call Off strike As Federal Government Reaches Agreement
The Academic Staff Union of University on Monday reaches an agreement with the Federal Government over payment of the allowance due to them since 2009. This revealed after a lengthy meeting between the two parties took place on Monday that led to the satisfaction of the demand of the ASUU.
The Federal Government has reached an agreement with the representatives of ASUU over the released of 5.4 billion Naira in payment for salary shortfalls. ASUU has been in talks for over 10 years regarding this arrears, and will be pleased to know the long wait has finally come to fruition. The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige speaking on media said that the demand of the striking lecturers have been met and a released of fund in the region of N15.4 billion will be released to clear the Union due.released has reached an agreement with members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
ASUU president, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi revealed immediately after the meeting that the Union will be reviewing their decisions concerning the ongoing strike based on the commitment of the government. ASUU who insisted that their query with Federal Government will not affect their participation in the February general election.
