Federal Government To Declare State of Emergency In Zamfara State
In light of recent attacks in Zamfara State the Government announced on Wednesday that the Government of Zamfara State is considering declaring state of emergency in the state to curb these
attacks on the citizens of Zamfara.
Recent attacks in Zamfara led to the death of 12 people and scores were injured, The Governor while addressing the State and the family of the victims reiterate his desire to see peace and security return to the State even if it means vacating his office as the Governor of the State.
The State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, has said that he is ready to vacate office if that is what is required to restore peace and security to the state. His decision to support the call for State of Emergency in the State was wildly viewed as a step to curbing the nemesis in the State.
Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo earlier on has called on the Government to declare State of Emergency in the State as a result of the attacks. While, speaking on the reason for his decision to step down from his office if it is solution to the problem of Zamfara State, maintained that his decision has nothing to do with politics but rather based on the need to see peace and security return to the State.
Mr Yari said after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, "I was not being political, we are talking about human lives here. If that is what will stop this thing, I am ready to step down,"
