Read INEC Full Letter Informing Nigerians of Postponing The General Election


The Independent National Electoral Commission Five Hours before the General Election announced that the election scheduled to take place on the 16th of February 2019 has now been shifted to the 23rd February and 9th of March 2019. The postponement of the election which was revealed by INEC to allows enough time for the various Authorities to further put in place strategies and defying of any obstacle that will reduce the credibility of the 2019 general election.


INEC released a statement via it Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu on the 16th of February exactly five (5) hours before the election begins. INEC has continue to offer its' commitment to ensuring a free, fair and credible election even as it begs the understanding of the members of the Public who waits patiently to decides their future and the future of their children.

INEC further use the opportunity to called on the public and the youth of the country to refrain from using violence in the forth coming election as the chairman speaking on the recent killing in Kaduna before the election was postponed said, Election should not be an avenue for violence.
