2023 presidency: Northerners will only vote for northern candidate - Ag ACF chairman

- Musa Liman Kwande, the acting chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), said northerners will vote for a northern presidential candidate regardless of the party he belongs
- Kwande said against the background of the argument that the north should allow the south to take over from President Buhari in 2023
- The acting ACF chairman, however, clarified that the statement was his private opinion and did not represent that of the ACF Conversations around the 2023 presidential election have refused to die down despite the fact the poll is still more than three years away and the 2019 elections have just been concluded. Contributing to the heated debate is the acting chairman of Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande who insisted that northerners will vote for a northern presidential candidate to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari irrespective of the party he belongs. Kwande, however, clarified that the statement was his private opinion and did not represent that of ACF.

The ACF acting chairman encouraged northerners who are capable to contest for any political office with anybody from any part of Nigeria, regardless of the arguments that the north should leave the presidency for the south in 2023, The Nation reports. Kwande, however, stressed the importance of unity, saying Nigerians must unite despite “being from different geographical locations”. “We should not relent in the pursuit of growth and development as we are blessed with gifted people and many resources, as only Nigerians would develop the country to greater heights,” he said. He also urged Nigerians to embrace and eschew violence, which according to him, is against democratic norms and a treat to the federation.
