The Idea to lift the early retirement of Teachers from 60 years to 65 years was first raised in a proposed bill in 2015, but the bill did not passed the second reading. Earlier, this year the House called for the bill to be reconsidered, before it was finally passed into Law on Wednesday after the third reading.
Plight of the retired teachers ranging from their outcry on the delay of Pension, to their continued usefulness even after retirement, and the benefits that will be derived by Students from continuing to learn from experience teachers, and the young teachers who start their career at a young age, prompted the re-reading of the bill.

The bill also provides 10 percent of basic salary as allowance to teachers posted outside local government headquarters. Comrade Rodney Nathan, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state, said: "The bill passed into law in Adamawa State will further spur the teachers to give their best".
