Man brutally beat another man to death in 'horrifically violent' pub toilet attack   A man who beat another man to death in a pub toilet has been locked up. Derek Bentham has been jailed for life, and must serve a minimum of 13 years before being considered for parole following the brutal attack in Hindley. The 46-year-old, of Smithwood Avenue, Hindley, was found guilty of murder at an earlier hearing. The court heard how his victim, Lee Christy, was drinking with a close friend at the Bears Paw pub on Market Street, when he went into the toilet.

Jimi Agbaje has revealed he lost the Lagos Governorship election to the All Progressives Congress, APC candidate, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. In an interview with PUNCH shortly after the result of the governorship election was announced, Jimi Agbaje who lamented the low voter turnout in Lagos State, said it was less than 20 per cent of the total number of persons that collected Permanent Voter Cards. He further said that  threats, coupled with the manner in which the presidential election was conducted, led to the voter apathy witnessed in the nation’s commercial nerve centre. Jimi Agbaje also disclosed that he lost the Lagos Governorship election as many of his supporters were intimidated, and even threatened with eviction and sack if the PDP won in their areas. He added that rather than risk their lives and their livelihood, the people decided to sit at home which gave his opponent the upper hand.

The People's Democratic Party defeats the All Progressive Congress in the just concluded Governorship election in Adamawa State. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated the All Progressive Congress (APC) to clinch victory at the state governorship election held on Saturday. By this, Jibrila Bindow, the state governor and APC candidate, seeking a second term in office has lost his re-election bid to Ahmadu Fintiri, candidate of the PDP in the election. The result announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) showed that Mr Fintiri polled 367,471 votes to emerge the winner. The outgoing governor, Mr Bindow, polled 334,995 votes to come second.

Nigeria Becomes Largest Importer Of Gasoline From China

Nigeria became the largest of buyer of gasoline from China with 51,000 mt of gasoline imported from the Asian country in January 2019. While it is the first such export to any African country, latest data from General Administration showed that the first to receive gas export from China was Togo, with 50,000 mt of gasoline in April 2018. General Administration is the China Customs border agency supervising inbound and outbound activities. It is a full-ministerial-level government agency that directly reports to the State Council of the People’s Republic of China and oversees all the regional customs across the country. Quoting records from the General Administration, S&P Global Platts, a leading global independent provider of information, benchmark prices and analytics for the energy and commodities markets, said that Nigeria was the fourth-largest buyer of Chinese gasoline in January, and also the only buyer outside Asia last month.

Almajiri Schools Built By Jonathan Government Decaying Across Nigeria

Between December 2010 and May 2015, the Goodluck Jonathan administration embarked on the Almajiri Education Programme which saw to the construction and equipment of 157 Tsangaya (Almajiri) Model Schools across Nigeria. ABDUSSALAM AMOO visited some of the sites of the schools in North Western Nigeria recently and reports about the deterioration of facilities and abandonment of the programme. Apart from the Almajiri Model School, Dutsin-Ma, in Katsina State, which was left to rot away after completion, some of the facilities in other Almajiri Model Schools in the North-West states of Sokoto, Kaduna, Katsina and Kano are decaying fast, our investigation has revealed. Visits to a cross-section of the schools showed that the facilities are in various degrees of decay. Some functional facilities have also been abandoned to rot away.

17 Years Old Teenage Boy Stabbed to Death in Hale Barns

According to reports giving by Manchestereveningnews, a teenage boy of around 17 years of age was stabbed to death in the town of Hale Barns. The teenager whose identity was not revealed at the time of writing was reported to have died in Hospital having been rushed there by the Local Police who responded to the incident. Police were called at 6.40pm to Gorse Bank Road, a residential street in the wealthy village, to the incident by the Locals, and upon arrival the police rushed the victim to the hospital where he later died. Reports had it that the victim was attacked by some teenagers believed to be in the same age bracket as the victim, with arrests made pertaining to the crime.
