Iwobi To Win 2019 CAF Footballer of the Year Awards?

Iwobi is the only Nigerian still in the top 10 of the 2018 CAF awards released by CAF organizers on Friday December 14. Iwobi went ahead of the likes of Ahmed Musa and Odion Ighalo who originally were in the 34 Man lists to cement his place in the top 10.

The lists of the top 10 players for the 2018 CAF Awards includes
Mohamed Salah (Egypt/Liverpool), Andre Onana (Cameroon/Ajax), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon/Arsenal), Anice Badri (Tunisia/Esperance), Riyad Mahrez (Algeria/Manchester City), Denis Onyango (Uganda/Mamelodi Sundowns), Sadio Mane (Senegal/Liverpool), Medhi Benatia (Morocco/Juventus) and Walid Soliman (Egypt/Al-Ahly).

It is without doubt that Iwobi has significantly improve his performance from last season and has upped his game his Unai Emery took charge of Arsenal and was also part of the team that just qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nation, but his chances of making the top 3 of the CAF player awards are slim considering who his challengers are and their various forms at club level.

Saleh, who last won the award is favorite to retain it after regaining his form to lead Liverpool to the top of the league going into Christmas period with 11 goals and second in the scorers chart. While another Former winner of the award Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also is termed favorite for his exploit in the Premier League topping the scorers chart with 12 goals. Another strong contender and 2016 winner of the award is
Algerias' Riyad Mahrez, who ply his trade with Manchester City. He has grown into an important player for Pep Guardiolas' team and may just make the top 3 list for the grand award in January 2019 (Darkar).

The event which is set to hold in Lagos to draw out the top 3 players to contest for the award is fast approaching and Iwobi might as well be proud of his achievement so far as the title is far from his clutches at this time of his career. Whatever the fate of Iwobi, he can be proud of his Achievements and can take consolation in the fact that he is still young and with his current form will be in the best position to win the award in the future.
