Jay Jay Okocha Speaks on His Arrest Warrant By Court

 

The Former Super Eagles Midfielder was arrested on court order and charged on three counts of tax evasion. Okocha who spoke for the first time since the arrest revealed via a phone call to 'the Gaurdian' that he was not aware of the arrests or charges made against him until he read such from a Newspaper. The Former Bolton Wanderers Midfielder said;

“I only read about it on the pages of newspapers.
No one contacted me. As a citizen of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I know very well that nobody is above the law. But honestly speaking, I was never contacted by anybody on issues before the court order.” He further stated that the issue has been settled. “It has been settled, but I won’t be able to give you details,” he stated.


According to the reports given by the 'The Guardian' the charges of the tax case was filed since June 6th 2017 through the Lagos State Prosecutor, Dr. Jide Martins, who revealed that the case though first filed In June the defendant did not appear in court after it was first mentioned in court in October 2017.

It led to several adjournments before he urged the court to issue a bench warrant.
Justice Adedayo Akintoye has adjourned the case until April 15 for the execution of the bench warrant and further hearing.
